＜略歴＞
Dr Richard Masterman was appointed Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research Strategy, Policy, Performance and REF in May 2016.Previously he has been Director of Research and Innovation Services at the University of Nottingham from 2005 and following a reorganisation in 2011, he became Director of Research and Graduate Services, focussing on developing, managing and securing outcomes from the University's research and doctoral portfolio, including a remit to expand our international portfolio at our overseas campuses and in collaboration with international universities and other partners. His current responsibility will see him working closely with the academic community and external partners to develop and deliver the University's global research strategy, engaging with all types of research sponsors, regionally, nationally and internationally.
In his previous roles, he had responsibility for leadership, management and support of all the University's research and knowledge transfer activities which includes an active and diverse research and knowledge transfer portfolio of more than 2000 projects with a value of more than £500 million. In these roles he has helped guide the University to deliver strong REF/RAE outcomes and record research awards in each of the last three years. He has worked at the University in roles supporting research and graduate strategy and policy development and implementation since 1992 with broader experience of supporting University governance. Prior to that, he completed a NERC funded PhD at Nottingham on vegetation effects on river bank stability. Previous experience includes administrative roles at universities and theatres in London including a stint as part of the management team of the Royal Court Theatre, a leading force in world theatre and the UK's leading theatre producing new plays of the highest quality.
